COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Relatives who knew or feared their loved ones were among the 190 abandoned bodies found decomposing in a Colorado funeral home watched in person for the first time Tuesday as the owners of the business appeared before a judge.Jon and Carie Hallford, owners of Return to Nature Funeral Home, are accused of abusing corpses, stealing, laundering money and forging documents. Standing in handcuffs and orange jail clothes, they didn’t speak or enter pleas during a brief hearing.The Colorado Springs-based funeral home’s facility in Penrose, a Rocky Mountain town of about 4,000 people, is where investigators in early October discovered dozens of stacked bodies. NASHVILLE — The Rockies held serve in Tuesday’s Major League Baseball Draft Lottery, nabbing the third overall pick for the 2024 draft.The Rockies finished the season 59-103, the third-worst record in the majors. Kansas City (56-106) and Oakland (50-112) were the only two teams with worse records. The Rockies entered the lottery tied with the A’s and the Royals with the highest percentage chance of landing the top pick, at 18.3%.Cleveland was the surprise winner. The Guardians (76-86) won the No. 1 overall pick, even though they had the ninth-highest chance of winning it, at 2.0%. Cincinnati (82-80) snagged the second pick even though it had only a 0.9% chance of winning. Homeowner shoots neighbor who entered home, refused to leave, police say

LOS ANGELES - Gunfire erupted inside a home near the Hollywood Bowl Tuesday morning when a man shot his neighbor after that neighbor forced his way into his home and refused to leave, authorities said.Officers responded to the 2200 block of Chelan Place just before 11 a.m. on reports of an assault with a deadly weapon.According to Los Angeles police, the neighbor was undergoing some type of mental “episode” when he first shattered the back window of a Porsche and then forced his way into his neighbor’s home.“He was asked to leave and when he refused the homeowner retrieved a firearm [and] shot the suspect,” said LAPD Officer Charles Miller.The shooting scene on Chelan Place in the Hollywood Hills. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers is spearheading a major effort to save Orange County's world-famous beaches from a natural threat: erosion.The problem of disappearing sand is nothing new but has become more alarming in recent years. A test program is a great idea. However, the proposed fines are: drivers going 11 to 15 mph over the speed limit will be sent a $50 ticket. Sixteen to 25 mph over the limit is a $100 ticket, and 26 mph over is $200. Those who exceed 100 mph will receive a $500 penalty.That last fine is preposterous.
